ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम् ।
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्टवा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम् ॥१॥
दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम् ।
उपगम्याब्रवीद् रामम् अगस्त्यो भगवांस्तदा ॥२॥
Tato yuddha-pariśrāntaṃ samare cintayā sthitam |
Rāvaṇaṃ cāgrato dṛṣṭvā yuddhāya samupasthitam ||1||
Daivataiśca samāgamya draṣṭum-abhyāgato raṇam |
Upagamyābravīd rāmam agastyo bhagavāṃs-tadā ||2||
इधर भगवान श्री राम युद्ध से थककर चिंता में लीन हुए रणभूमि में खड़े थे। उसी समय रावण भी युद्ध के लिए रणभूमि में आ गया। यह सब देखकर ऋषि अगस्त्य भगवान श्री राम के समीप गए और इस प्रकार बोले।
On the battlefield, Lord Sri Rama was standing exhausted from the prolonged battle and lost in deep thought. Just then, Ravana also appeared on the battlefield, ready for combat. Seeing this, Sage Agastya, who had come along with other deities to witness the war, approached Lord Rama and spoke thus.
राम राम महाबाहो श्रृणु गुह्यं सनातनम् ।
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसे ॥३॥
आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम् ।
जयावहं जपं नित्यमक्षयं परमं शिवम् ॥४॥
Rāma rāma mahābāho śṛṇu guhyaṃ sanātanam |
Yena sarvān-arīn vatsa samare vijayiṣyase ||3||
Āditya-hṛdayaṃ puṇyaṃ sarva-śatru-vināśanam |
Jayāvahaṃ japaṃ nityam-akṣayaṃ paramaṃ śivam ||4||
हे महाबाहो श्री राम! यह गुप्त एवं सनातन स्तोत्र सुनो। इसके द्वारा हे वत्स, तुम युद्ध में अपने सभी शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करोगे। यह आदित्य हृदय स्तोत्र अत्यंत पवित्र और सभी शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाला है। इसका नित्य जप करने से विजय की प्राप्ति होती है, यह अक्षय फल देने वाला और परम कल्याणकारी स्तोत्र है।
O mighty-armed Rama! Listen to this secret and eternal stotra. By this, dear one, you shall conquer all your enemies in battle. This Aditya Hridayam is sacred, destroyer of all enemies, bestower of victory, eternal in its results, and supremely auspicious — its daily recitation never goes in vain.
सर्वमंगलमांगल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् ।
चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनमायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम् ॥५॥
रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुरनमस्कृतम् ।
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम् ॥६॥
Sarva-maṅgala-māṅgalyaṃ sarva-pāpa-praṇāśanam |
Cintā-śoka-praśamanam-āyur-vardhanam-uttamam ||5||
Raśmimantaṃ samudyantaṃ devāsura-namaskṛtam |
Pūjayasva vivasvantaṃ bhāskaraṃ bhuvaneśvaram ||6||
यह स्तोत्र समस्त मंगलों में मंगल, सभी पापों का नाश करने वाला है। यह चिंता और शोक को दूर करता है तथा आयु में वृद्धि करने वाला उत्तम स्तोत्र है। अनंत किरणों से सुशोभित, नित्य उदय होने वाले, देवों और असुरों द्वारा नमस्कृत — इस सम्पूर्ण विश्व के स्वामी भगवान सूर्य देव की पूजा करो।
This stotra is the most auspicious of all auspicious things, the destroyer of all sins, the dispeller of anxiety and sorrow, and the supreme bestower of long life. Worship Lord Vivasvan, the radiant one rising with countless rays, revered by gods and demons alike — the Bhaskara, the Lord of the worlds.
सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः ।
एष देवासुरगणाँल्लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः ॥७॥
एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः ।
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः ॥८॥
Sarva-devātmako hyeṣa tejasvī raśmi-bhāvanaḥ |
Eṣa devāsura-gaṇāṁl-lokān pāti gabhastibhiḥ ||7||
Eṣa brahmā ca viṣṇuśca śivaḥ skandaḥ prajāpatiḥ |
Mahendro dhanadaḥ kālo yamaḥ somo hyapāṃ patiḥ ||8||
ये सूर्य देव सभी देवताओं के स्वरूप हैं, तेजस्वी हैं और अपनी किरणों से सबको स्फूर्ति प्रदान करते हैं। ये अपनी ऊर्जा से देवताओं, असुरों और समस्त लोकों का पालन करते हैं। यही ब्रह्मा, विष्णु, शिव, स्कन्द (कार्तिकेय), प्रजापति, महेन्द्र, कुबेर, काल, यम, चन्द्रमा और जल के स्वामी वरुण के रूप में प्रकट होते हैं।
This Sun is the embodiment of all the gods, radiant and the source of light. With his rays, he sustains the worlds, the hosts of gods and demons. He is verily Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda, Prajapati; he is the great Indra, Kubera (the lord of wealth), Kala (time), Yama, Soma (the moon), and Varuna (the lord of waters).
पितरो वसवः साध्या अश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः ।
वायुर्वन्हिः प्रजाः प्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः ॥९॥
आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान् ।
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः ॥१०॥
Pitaro vasavaḥ sādhyā aśvinau maruto manuḥ |
Vāyur-vanhiḥ prajāḥ prāṇa ṛtu-kartā prabhākaraḥ ||9||
Ādityaḥ savitā sūryaḥ khagaḥ pūṣā gabhastimān |
Suvarṇa-sadṛśo bhānur-hiraṇyaretā divākaraḥ ||10||
ये पितरों, वसुओं, साध्यों, अश्विनी कुमारों, मरुद्गणों, मनु, वायु, अग्नि, प्रजा, प्राण और ऋतुओं को जन्म देने वाले प्रभा के पुंज हैं। ये अलग-अलग नामों से जाने जाते हैं — आदित्य (अदिति के पुत्र), सविता (जगत को उत्पन्न करने वाले), सूर्य (सर्वव्यापी), खग (आकाश में विचरने वाले), पूषा, गभस्तिमान (किरणों वाले), स्वर्ण के समान आभा वाले भानु, हिरण्यरेता (स्वर्णमय वीर्य वाले) और दिवाकर (दिन को प्रकट करने वाले)।
He is the source of the Pitrs (ancestors), Vasus, Sadhyas, Ashwini Kumaras, Maruts, Manu, Vayu (wind), Agni (fire), the beings, the life-breath (prana), and the maker of seasons — the radiant Prabhakara. He is known as Aditya, Savita, Surya, Khaga (sky-traveller), Pusha, Gabhastiman (rayed one), Bhanu (golden-hued), Hiranyareta (golden-seeded), and Divakara (maker of day).
हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्तिर्मरीचिमान् ।
तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्तण्डकोंऽशुमान् ॥११॥
हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरस्तपनोऽहस्करो रविः ।
अग्निगर्भोऽदितेः पुत्रः शंखः शिशिरनाशनः ॥१२॥
Haridaśvaḥ sahasrārciḥ saptasaptir-marīcimān |
Timironmathanaḥ śambhus-tvaṣṭā mārtaṇḍako'ṃśumān ||11||
Hiraṇya-garbhaḥ śiśiras-tapano'haskaro raviḥ |
Agnigarbho'diteḥ putraḥ śaṅkhaḥ śiśira-nāśanaḥ ||12||
हरिदश्व (हरे रंग के घोड़ों वाले), सहस्रार्चि (हजारों किरणों वाले), सप्तसप्ति (सात घोड़ों वाले), मरीचिमान (किरणों से सुशोभित), तिमिरोन्मथन (अंधकार का नाश करने वाले), शम्भु, त्वष्टा, मार्तण्डक, अंशुमान, हिरण्यगर्भ, शिशिर (सुख प्रदान करने वाले), तपन (गर्मी उत्पन्न करने वाले), अहस्कर (दिन के निर्माता), रवि, अग्निगर्भ, अदिति के पुत्र, शंख और शीत का नाश करने वाले।
He is Haridashva (with green horses), Sahasrarchi (with thousands of rays), Saptasapti (with seven horses), Marichiman (resplendent with rays), Timironmathana (destroyer of darkness), Shambhu, Tvashta, Martanda, Amshuman, Hiranyagarbha, Shishira (the cooling one), Tapana (generator of heat), Ahaskara (maker of day), Ravi, Agnigarbha (fire-wombed), son of Aditi, Shankha, and the destroyer of cold.
व्योमनाथस्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसामपारगः ।
घनवृष्टिरपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवंगमः ॥१३॥
आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिंगलः सर्वतापनः ।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजा रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः ॥१४॥
Vyomanāthas-tamobhedī ṛg-yajuḥ-sāma-pāragaḥ |
Ghana-vṛṣṭir-apāṃ mitro vindhya-vīthī-plavaṅgamaḥ ||13||
Ātapī maṇḍalī mṛtyuḥ piṅgalaḥ sarva-tāpanaḥ |
Kavir-viśvo mahā-tejā raktaḥ sarva-bhavod-bhavaḥ ||14||
व्योमनाथ (आकाश के स्वामी), तमोभेदी (अंधकार को भेदने वाले), ऋग्वेद, यजुर्वेद और सामवेद के पारगामी, घन वृष्टि (बादलों से वर्षा कराने वाले), अपाम मित्र (जल के मित्र), विन्ध्यवीथीप्लवंगम (आकाश में तीव्र गति से चलने वाले), आतपी, मण्डली, मृत्यु, पिंगल, सर्वतापन (सबको तपाने वाले), कवि, विश्वरूप, महातेजस्वी, रक्त वर्ण वाले, और सर्वभवोद्भव (सभी की उत्पत्ति के मूल) हैं।
He is Vyomanatha (lord of the sky), Tamobhedi (piercer of darkness), master of the Rig, Yajur, and Sama Vedas. He is Ghana-vrishti (cloud-rain), friend of waters, Vindhya-vithi-plavangama (swift mover across the sky). He is Atapi, Mandali, Mrityu (death), Pingala, Sarva-tapana (heater of all), Kavi (poet-seer), Vishva (the universe), Maha-teja (greatly resplendent), the red-hued one, and Sarva-bhavod-bhava (the origin of all beings).
नक्षत्रग्रहताराणामधिपो विश्वभावनः ।
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन् नमोऽस्तु ते ॥१५॥
नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः ।
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः ॥१६॥
Nakṣatra-graha-tārāṇām-adhipo viśva-bhāvanaḥ |
Tejasām-api tejasvī dvādaśātman namo'stu te ||15||
Namaḥ pūrvāya giraye paścimāyādraye namaḥ |
Jyotir-gaṇānāṃ pataye dinādhipataye namaḥ ||16||
नक्षत्रों, ग्रहों और तारों के अधिपति, विश्वभावन (विश्व की रक्षा करने वाले), तेजस्वियों में भी तेजस्वी, बारह आदित्य रूप वाले — आपको नमस्कार है। पूर्व के उदयाचल पर्वत और पश्चिम के अस्ताचल पर्वत के रूप में आपको नमस्कार है। ज्योतिर्गणों के स्वामी तथा दिन के अधिपति आपको नमस्कार है।
Lord of the constellations, planets, and stars; the protector of the universe; the most radiant among the radiant; the twelve-formed one (Dvadashatma) — salutations to you. Salutations to the eastern mountain (of sunrise) and to the western mountain (of sunset). Salutations to the Lord of the stellar bodies and the Lord of the day.
जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः ।
नमो नमः सहस्रांशो आदित्याय नमो नमः ॥१७॥
नम उग्राय वीराय सारंगाय नमो नमः ।
नमः पद्मप्रबोधाय प्रचण्डाय नमोऽस्तुते ॥१८॥
Jayāya jaya-bhadrāya haryaśvāya namo namaḥ |
Namo namaḥ sahasrāṃśo ādityāya namo namaḥ ||17||
Nama ugrāya vīrāya sāraṅgāya namo namaḥ |
Namaḥ padma-prabodhāya pracaṇḍāya namo'stute ||18||
जो जय के रूप हैं, जिनकी विजय कल्याणकारी है, हरे रंग के घोड़ों के रथ वाले भगवान को बारम्बार नमस्कार है। हजारों किरणों से प्रभावान आदित्य को नमस्कार है। उग्र, वीर और सारंग रूप भगवान सूर्यदेव को नमस्कार है। कमलों को विकसित करने वाले प्रचण्ड तेज वाले भगवान को नमस्कार है।
Salutations again and again to the bringer of victory, to the auspicious victorious one, to the one with green horses. Salutations again and again to the thousand-rayed Aditya. Salutations to the fierce, the heroic, and the Sarangya. Salutations to the awakener of lotuses, the fiercely brilliant one.
ब्रह्मेशानाच्युतेशाय सूर्यायादित्यवर्चसे ।
भास्वते सर्वभक्षाय रौद्राय वपुषे नमः ॥१९॥
तमोघ्नाय हिमघ्नाय शत्रुघ्नायामितात्मने ।
कृतघ्नघ्नाय देवाय ज्योतिषां पतये नमः ॥२०॥
Brahmeśānācyuteśāya sūryāyāditya-varcase |
Bhāsvate sarva-bhakṣāya raudrāya vapuṣe namaḥ ||19||
Tamoghnāya hima-ghnāya śatru-ghnāyāmitātmane |
Kṛtaghna-ghnāya devāya jyotiṣāṃ pataye namaḥ ||20||
जो ब्रह्मा, शिव और विष्णु तीनों के स्वामी हैं, जिनकी संज्ञा सूर्य है, आदित्य के तेज वाले, प्रकाशमान, सबको ग्रहण करने वाले और रौद्र रूप — ऐसे आपको नमस्कार है। अज्ञान-अंधकार के नाशक, शीत के निवारक, शत्रुओं के नाशक, अप्रमेय आत्मा वाले, कृतघ्नों का नाश करने वाले देव और ज्योतियों के स्वामी आपको नमस्कार है।
Salutations to the Lord of Brahma, Ishana (Shiva), and Achyuta (Vishnu); to Surya, radiant as Aditya; to the shining one; to the all-devouring one; to the Rudra form. Salutations to the destroyer of darkness, destroyer of cold, destroyer of enemies, the immeasurable soul; to the destroyer of the ungrateful, the divine Lord of all luminaries.
तप्तचामीकराभाय हरये विश्वकर्मणे ।
नमस्तमोऽभिनिघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे ॥२१॥
नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तमेव सृजति प्रभुः ।
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः ॥२२॥
Tapta-cāmīkarābhāya haraye viśva-karmaṇe |
Namas-tamo'bhinighnāya rucaye loka-sākṣiṇe ||21||
Nāśayatyeṣa vai bhūtaṃ tameva sṛjati prabhuḥ |
Pāyatyeṣa tapatyeṣa varṣatyeṣa gabhastibhiḥ ||22||
जिनकी प्रभा तप्त स्वर्ण के समान है, जो हरि (अज्ञान को हरने वाले) और विश्वकर्मा (संसार की रचना करने वाले) हैं, अंधकार के नाशक, प्रकाश रूप, जगत के साक्षी — आपको नमस्कार है। हे रघुनन्दन! यही भगवान सूर्य देव सभी भूतों का संहार, रचना और पालन करते हैं। ये अपनी किरणों से जगत का पालन करते हैं, गर्मी देते हैं और वर्षा करते हैं।
Salutations to the one whose splendor is like molten gold, to Hari (the remover), to Vishwakarma (creator of the universe); to the destroyer of darkness, the radiant one, the witness of the world. This Lord destroys all beings, and He alone creates them again. He sustains, He scorches, and He pours forth rain with His rays.
एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः ।
एष चैवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्निहोत्रिणाम् ॥२३॥
देवाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च ।
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्वेषु परमप्रभुः ॥२४॥
Eṣa supteṣu jāgarti bhūteṣu pari-niṣṭhitaḥ |
Eṣa caivāgni-hotraṃ ca phalaṃ caivāgni-hotriṇām ||23||
Devāśca kratavaścaiva kratūnāṃ phalam-eva ca |
Yāni kṛtyāni lokeṣu sarveṣu parama-prabhuḥ ||24||
यह देव सभी भूतों के अंतर में स्थित रहकर, उनके सो जाने पर भी जागते रहते हैं। यही अग्निहोत्र हैं और यही अग्निहोत्रियों के द्वारा प्राप्त फल भी हैं। यही देवता हैं, यही यज्ञ हैं और यज्ञों का फल भी यही हैं। समस्त लोकों में जो भी क्रियाएँ होती हैं, उन सबके परम स्वामी यही हैं।
He awakens in those who sleep, ever-present within all beings. He is the Agnihotra (fire ritual) and the fruit obtained by those who perform it. He is the gods and the sacrifices themselves, and also the fruit of the sacrifices. He is the supreme Lord of all actions performed in all the worlds.
एनमापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च ।
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्नावसीदति राघव ॥२५॥
पूजयस्वैनमेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम् ।
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि ॥२६॥
Enam-āpatsu kṛcchreṣu kāntāreṣu bhayeṣu ca |
Kīrtayan puruṣaḥ kaścin-nāvasīdati rāghava ||25||
Pūjayasvainam-ekāgro deva-devaṃ jagat-patim |
Etat trī-guṇitaṃ japtvā yuddheṣu vijayiṣyasi ||26||
हे राघव! किसी विपत्ति में, कष्ट में, कठिन मार्ग में या भय के समय जो भी सूर्यदेव का कीर्तन या स्मरण करता है, उसे दुःख या पीड़ा सहन नहीं करना पड़ता। एकाग्रचित होकर देवों के देव जगत्पति सूर्य देव का पूजन करो। इस आदित्य हृदय स्तोत्र का तीन बार जप करने से तुम युद्ध में अवश्य ही विजय प्राप्त करोगे।
O Raghava! Whoever recites this stotra in times of calamity, difficulty, in desolate forests, or in fearful situations — that person never falls into despair. Worship this Lord of the gods, the Master of the universe, with single-pointed mind. Recite this thrice, and you shall surely attain victory in battle.
अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं जहिष्यसि ।
एवमुक्त्वा ततोऽगस्त्यो जगाम स यथागतम् ॥२७॥
एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजा नष्टशोकोऽभवत् तदा ।
धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान् ॥२८॥
Asmin kṣaṇe mahābāho rāvaṇaṃ tvaṃ jahiṣyasi |
Evam-uktvā tato'gastyo jagāma sa yathāgatam ||27||
Etac-chrutvā mahā-tejā naṣṭa-śoko'bhavat tadā |
Dhārayām-āsa suprīto rāghavaḥ prayatātmavān ||28||
हे महाबाहो! इस क्षण आप रावण का वध कर पाएँगे। इस प्रकार कहकर ऋषि अगस्त्य जिस प्रकार आये थे, उसी प्रकार वापस लौट गए। उनके इस उपदेश को सुनकर महातेजस्वी भगवान श्री राम के सभी शोक दूर हो गए। प्रसन्न और संयमित मन वाले श्री राम ने इस स्तोत्र को धारण किया।
O mighty-armed one! In this very moment you shall slay Ravana. Having spoken thus, Sage Agastya returned the way he had come. Hearing this, the supremely radiant Rama became free from all sorrow. Greatly pleased and with a controlled mind, the noble Raghava took this stotra to heart.
आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वेदं परं हर्षमवाप्तवान् ।
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान् ॥२९॥
रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा जयार्थे समुपागमत् ।
सर्वयत्नेन महता वृतस्तस्य वधेऽभवत् ॥३०॥
Ādityaṃ prekṣya japtvedaṃ paraṃ harṣam-avāptavān |
Trir-ācamya śucir-bhūtvā dhanur-ādāya vīryavān ||29||
Rāvaṇaṃ prekṣya hṛṣṭātmā jayārthe samupāgamat |
Sarva-yatnena mahatā vṛtas-tasya vadhe'bhavat ||30||
तीन बार आचमन कर शुद्ध होकर भगवान श्री राम ने सूर्य देव की ओर देखकर इस आदित्य हृदय स्तोत्र का जप किया और परम हर्ष को प्राप्त हुए। उसके पश्चात बलवान श्री राम ने अपना धनुष उठाया, रावण को देखकर प्रसन्न मन से विजय के लिए आगे बढ़े, और संपूर्ण शक्ति के साथ उसके वध के लिए तत्पर हो गए।
Gazing at the Sun and reciting this stotra, Rama attained supreme joy. Sipping water thrice and becoming pure, the mighty hero took up his bow. Looking at Ravana with a delighted heart, he advanced for victory, and with his utmost effort, he became fully resolved to slay him.
अथ रविरवदन्निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः ।
निशिचरपतिसंक्षयं विदित्वा सुरगणमध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति ॥३१॥
॥ इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये
युद्धकाण्डे पञ्चाधिक-शततमः सर्गः ॥
Atha ravir-avadan-nirīkṣya rāmaṃ mudita-manāḥ paramaṃ prahṛṣyamāṇaḥ |
Niśicara-pati-saṅkṣayaṃ viditvā sura-gaṇa-madhya-gato vacas-tvareti ||31||
|| Ity-ārṣe śrīmad-rāmāyaṇe vālmīkīye ādi-kāvye
yuddha-kāṇḍe pañcādhika-śatatamaḥ sargaḥ ||
तब देवताओं के बीच में खड़े सूर्य देव ने प्रसन्न मन से भगवान श्री राम की ओर देखा, और राक्षस रावण के अंत का समय निकट जानकर हर्षपूर्वक कहा — "शीघ्रता करो!" (इस प्रकार वाल्मीकि रामायण के युद्धकाण्ड का एक सौ पाँचवाँ सर्ग समाप्त होता है।)
Then Surya Deva, standing amidst the host of gods with a joyful heart, looked upon Rama, immensely pleased. Knowing that the time for the destruction of the lord of the night-rangers (Ravana) had arrived, he spoke from amidst the gods: "Hasten now!" (Thus ends the 105th canto of the Yuddha Kanda of the sacred Ramayana by Maharishi Valmiki.)
